My name is Fred Hammett and I am the owner and president of Fredex Construction.

I was raised on a 15 acre hobby farm since I was four years old, where I was taught that hard work and dedication will go a long way. Growing up I never grew tired of playing in the dirt piles with my Tonka trucks, dreaming of the day I could get in a real machine. That day came when I was six years old and my dad had me in the bobcat cleaning out the chicken coop.

My dad owned a construction company so he always had machines around. It wasn't long until I'd figured out how to run a bobcat, excavator and dump truck. He couldn't keep me out of them. I'd be digging a random hole in the middle of the yard loving life and he'd come out screaming that I was burning diesel for no apparent reason. I didn't understand the cost of it back then!

Diesel is in my blood and dirt under my finger nails seemed to come naturally to me. I worked for my dad during the summer months, while I was in school. After graduating from KLO in 1999 it soon became apparent that working with your father was not going to be as easy as it seemed. After graduation I spent my summers working for different companies throughout the Okanagan, and my winters in the northern country working on the pipeline.

I always had the entrepreneurial spirit in me and knew that one day I would own my own company. That year came in 2003. My first excavator was a John Deere 50 ZTS that I hauled around with a trailer that I borrowed from my dad. To complete my fleet I bought an old propane, single axel, Ford dump truck off my uncle that I had to add custom racing strips, out of aluminum ducting tape, to cover the holes in sides of the box to prevent the sand from falling out!

We were off and running from there. Since then we've created an amazing team of individuals that are as passionate about the industry as I am. I'm very proud of the team we've created. We now have an amazing fleet to suit all your needs and we look forward to working with you!
